Discover Your Executive Function Profile

Your assessment will reveal which archetype best describes your executive function pattern. Most people recognise themselves in one or two of these profiles:

The Dreamer

Strong on ideas and creativity, struggles with execution and follow-through. Great at seeing possibilities, challenged by boring details.

The Firefighter

Thrives in crisis and chaos, struggles with routine and prevention. Excellent under pressure, challenged by maintenance tasks.

The Perfectionist

Can focus intensely but paralysed by fear of getting it wrong. Produces quality work, challenged by starting and accepting "good enough".

The Juggler

Keeps many balls in the air until one drops—then they all do. Good at variety, challenged by sustaining over time.

The Sprinter

Intense bursts of productivity followed by crashes. Excellent at deadline pressure, challenged by pacing and consistency.

Archetypes are simplified summaries to aid understanding. Your full profile will reveal the specific domains driving your pattern.

What is Executive Function?

Executive functions are the cognitive processes that help you manage yourself and your resources to achieve goals. They include planning, working memory, attention, problem-solving, mental flexibility, and self-monitoring. Difficulties in these areas can affect work, education, and daily life.

ELIC-Q measures how much cognitive "load" different executive demands place on you, and how much "cost" you experience when initiating tasks. This is different from measuring ability—it focuses on the effort and energy required.

6 Core Domains Measured

I
Initiation

The cost of getting started on tasks

W
Working Load

Holding and manipulating information

S
Shift

Switching between tasks or mental sets

H
Inhibition

Filtering distractions, stopping impulses

T
Temporal Processing

Time awareness and management

C
Task Completion

Finishing what you start

6 Extended Domains

Based on your core results, you may be offered additional questions covering:

Emotional Regulation
Motivation & Effort
Recovery & Fatigue

Your anonymised responses contribute to ongoing research to better understand executive function patterns. No personally identifiable information is shared. This research helps improve support for others with similar profiles.

Important Information
  • This screening describes executive load patterns, not a diagnosis. It measures your current experience of executive function difficulties.
  • Population norms have not yet been established for this instrument. Scores reflect your self-reported experience relative to the scale anchors, not comparison to a normative sample.
  • Only a qualified healthcare professional can diagnose ADHD, autism, or related conditions.
  • This tool is designed for support planning and self-advocacy, and is based on emerging research.
  • If you're experiencing significant distress, please reach out to a healthcare provider.
